Bonsai Actual presents

The 1st International Contest Bonsai Actual CIBA2012

English rules and translation are been write by Paul Stokes, ofbonsai.org

Our idea is to create a photographic competition with trees from all around the world, and to have photographs of these trees judged by the subscribers of the magazine. This competition can be followed from our website: www.bonsaiactual.com.

Please read the following rules carefully before submitting any photo to avoid possible misunderstandings.

1 – Categories

The competition has two categories:

  • Conifers
  • Broadleaf

2 – Participants

Anyone can participate in this contest as long as they accept the rules.
During the course of the contest, contestants’ names will not be exposed.

3 – Registration

This is a photographic competition, so participants should send photographs by e-mail, or by entering the photographs online via the online form.

Each participant may enter only one tree in each of the categories.

The photographs will be displayed on a page created expressly for our website www.bonsaiactual.com.

Each entry must be accompanied by the following:

  • Species (scientific name)
  • Height
  • Origin of the pot

Along with the participant's data:

  • Name and surname
  • Address
  • e-mail
  • Telephone

The contestants' personal data are protected under the Spanish Data Protection laws, and only the participants’ names and countries will be made public at the end of the contest.

Trees must belong to the contestant, and contestants must have had possession of their trees for at least the last three years.

4 – Photographs

Photographs must be original and must have not been altered in any way, except for possible exposure corrections.

Photographs must be in original format, and should retain full EXIF information in order to evaluate possible alterations.

Photographs that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified.

The size of the photographs must be at least 2200 pixels on the smaller side

Scanned photographs will also be accepted with a resolution sufficient to meet the above requirement of 2200 pixels on the smaller side.

Supported formats are:

  • tif
  • jpg
  • png
  • raw
  • nef

The background must be smooth, regardless of color, preferably white, gray, or black.

No photographs are allowed with a textured background.

It is recommended that the trees are photographed without accent plants or supplements, because doing so reduces the size of the display on the website. This may cause many of the details that benefit the composition to be lost. This is a photographic competition, focused on the assessment of the tree. However, this is only a recommendation.

Submitted photographs must been taken during the contest duration period.

5 – The Judges

The bonsai trees will be judged by Bonsai Actual subscribers.
They may exercise their right to vote after they login as a subscriber to the www.bonsaiactual.com website by entering their username and password.
If you have lost your username or password, you can request them from the website, or contact us with your name and email address at ciba@bonsaiactual.com.

The judges shall assign to each tree a score ranging from 0 to 10 points. They will be unable to vote more than once on the same tree, or change their vote once it has been entered. The vote is final.

6 – Duration of the contest

The contest begins on February 1, 2012 and ends on September 30, 2012

The deadline to register entries will be 00:00 am on October 1, 2012, Madrid time (GMT +1).
